For our friends that are more tolerant of new experiences, a New Patient visit will start with an introduction to the office, the dental chair, and the dental instruments.
After a review of medical/dental histories and a comprehensive dental examination and cleaning, Dr. Stacey will discuss a plan tailored to your child’s specific needs, from nutrition and oral hygiene, to any future visits required to maintain or restore oral health.
Dental prophylaxis for children and teens is typically done with a rubber cup to remove plaque and stains on the teeth. Hand instruments or ultrasonic scalers will be used when there are deposits of calculus (tarter) on the teeth. Having clean teeth will enable Dr. Stacey to do a thorough check-up and is the first step toward achieving a healthy smile.
After your child’s teeth are cleaned, we will provide a professional topical fluoride treatment in the form of a clear varnish that adheres well to teeth for several hours after placement, allowing the child to eat and drink immediately after their dental appointment. Fluoride gel or foam is also available for those that prefer the “non-sticky” alternative.
